SINGAPORE, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday confirmed that eight Indonesian males, aged between 16 and 37, were deported to Malaysia on Tuesday.
A MHA spokesperson said the deportation was carried out after one of them was found in possession of images of security concern, including that of a shoe-bomb as well as fighters from the terrorist group Islamic State (IS).
The spokesperson added that Singapore authorities informed their Malaysian counterparts before the deportation.
Earlier on Thursday, the Malaysian state news agency Bernama reported that eight Indonesian students were arrested by Singapore customs authorities at Woodlands Checkpoint. The group was then deported to Batam, Indonesia by ferry.
On Dec. 29, 2016, MHA confirmed that the authority has deported two Indonesians who allegedly had plans to travel to Syria via Singapore to join the IS.
