Albania discusses economic reforms program with int'l donors

TIRANA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian economy ministry held a meeting Wednesday with donors and representatives of major international institutions to discuss the country's 2017-2019 economic reform program, the ministry said in a press release.

The economic reforms program for the next three years contains 19 changes which focus on managing public finances, energy, transport and telecom markets, sectoral developments, the business climate and reducing the informal economy, the ministry explained.

The ministry added that once the document was approved by the government, it would be handed to the European Commission.

Albania is expected to seek funds from the EU for research and innovation, foreign trade and the facilitation of investments, education and the labor market, equal opportunities, and the reduction of poverty, media here reported.

During the meeting, representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EU delegation to Albania, UNDP and others discussed the main structural reforms proposed by the Albanian government designed to boost growth and enhance competitiveness, the press statement said.

Deputy economy minister and meeting chair Adela Karapici highlighted that the structural reforms aimed at encouraging economic growth in in the medium term.
