BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The leading Party group of the State Council, China's cabinet, has called for continued efforts to build a clean government and root out corruption.
At a meeting held last Friday, the group stressed implementing decisions and arrangements of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, as well as campaigns launched by the central leadership to eradicate extravagance, bureaucracy and corruption, said a statement released on Wednesday.
The meeting was presided over by Premier Li Keqiang, head of the leading Party group.
By strengthening the regulation of power, cutting red tape and improving services, among other efforts, the leading Party group has made remarkable progress over recent years in building a clean government, the attendees said.
They called for speeding up efforts to clearly define the scope of rights and obligations, "have rights exposed under the sun," and leave no refuges for corruption.
They underscored streamlining administration.
Government expenditure must be placed under strict control, illegal activities in state-owned enterprises' reorganization and outbound investment prevented, and supervision over public resources trading advanced.
The attendees called for rigorous supervision and tough punishments for corruption related to the public interest, such as resource development, finance, poverty alleviation and health care, the statement said.
It noted that the government will strive to improve its work styles by improving mechanisms that encourage civil servants to take responsibility and perform their duties.
The leading Party group of the State Council and various departments must unite more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, strengthen management on intra-Party political life, strictly implement the documents on Party discipline, and consciously accept supervision, the statement added.
According to the statement, the meeting decided to convene the fifth work conference of the State Council on clean governance.
Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
