ABUJA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's security forces on Tuesday said they have begun to trace the source of bomb timers used by terror group Boko Haram to wreak havoc in the country.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the northeastern state of Borno said the investigation was launched following a discovery of the countdown timers used by the terror group at the scene of a suicide blast last Sunday in Maiduguri, capital of the state.
The digital timer, according to the NSCDC, serves the purpose of allowing the planter of bomb or suicide bomber to know the time to explode the improvised explosive device.
"Since we know what they (the Boko Haram terrorists) are using, we shall track the source of the gadget," said Ibrahim Abdullahi, a commandant of the security and civil defence corps.
Nigeria has made considerable gain on the Boko Haram front, with its security forces operating in the restive region dislodging the Boko Haram fighters from the Sambisa Forest, their last enclave in the country. Enditem
