Benin's specialized physicians stage strike for better living and working conditions

COTONOU, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Specialized physicians from Benin university hospital center have staged a sit-in protest on Monday in Cotonou ahead of unlimited strike to claim better living and working conditions.

On early Monday morning, at least hundred specialized doctors gathered in the National university hospital center in the capital Cotonou to protest against their harsh administrative situation, as they abandoned surgery rooms and technical support services.

They stood displaying signs and banners that read, "No to exploitation!", "No to precariousness!", "No to weak health system!", "We claim equity".

A motion for the unlimited strike has been disclosed.

Protesters claim the definition of special status for specialized doctors in Benin and the provision of minimum wage to all specialized doctors.

They also called for the enhancement of technical support services in order to ensure the access to quality health services to Benin population. Enditem
