HANOI, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Viruses, malware and ransomware made computer users in Vietnam suffer losses of 10,400 billion Vietnamese dong (464 million U.S. dollars) in 2016, up from 8,700 billion Vietnamese dong (388 million U.S. dollars) in 2015, Vietnam's leading security firm BKAV said on Monday.
According to statistics from Hanoi-based BKAV, 16 percent of emails circulated last year contained ransomware which encrypted certain files on users' computers, and then asked the victims to pay ransom to hackers.
Besides, the rate of USB drives of being infected with viruses last year was still high, remaining flat at 83 percent.
Malware is forecast to continue to spread in mobile devices this year.
