Singaporean president arrives in Cambodia for state visit

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam arrived here on Sunday afternoon for a four-day state visit at the invitation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.

According to the official schedule, Tan will be received in separate royal audiences by Sihamoni and Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath at the Royal Palace on Monday morning.

The Singaporean president will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the Peace Palace on Monday afternoon, and then the two leaders will witness the signing ceremony of two memoranda of understanding on vocational training and healthcare, the schedule showed.

Besides, Tan will visit Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh, where Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Temasek Foundation International are assisting to improve the skills of Cambodian doctors and nurses in trauma and resuscitation.

He will wrap up his visit to the country by sightseeing the famed Angkor archeological park in northwestern Siem Reap province.

Cambodia is the first leg of his two-nation tour, which will also bring him to Laos from Jan. 11 to 14, according to the statement of the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

"The visits reaffirm Singapore's warm and longstanding relations with both countries," the statement said.
