RABAT, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- A total of 10 people were killed and 22 others were injured on Saturday in a road accident near the southern city of Agadir, Morocco, local authorities said.

The accident occurred when a truck and a bus crashed some 40 km away from Agadir, the same source pointed out.

The injured were carried to Hassan II hospital in Agadir, while another in a critical condition was flown via a helicopter to Marrakech.

An investigation was launched.

This deadly accident came after two dramatic accidents in late December.

Altogether 10 people were killed after a crash between a truck and a car in the northern city of Chefchaouen. Another accident killed nine people and injured 45 others when a bus, carrying a group of young people coming back from a picnic, overturned on the road linking the cities of Fez and Sidi Kacem.

Deadly traffic accidents are common in the North African country.

Figures from the Moroccan Transport Ministry show that a total of 3,565 people were killed in the country last year.
