ALGIERS, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed on Saturday when a bus crashed in the locality of Bou Saada, 245 km south of the capital Algiers, fire fighting department of the province said.
The crash happened in Bou Saada, M'Sila Province has left nine passengers dead, and 12 others injured, said chief of fire fighting department in M'Sila, adding that the injured passengers were rushed to hospital for medical treatments.
An investigation was underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.
Similar accidents are frequent on the roads linking the north and the south of Algeria. Speeding and fatigue driving stand as the main reasons for such accidents, road police investigations said.
Figures show that 4,000 to 4,500 people die every year of traffic accidents in Algeria. A driving license demerit point system is yet to become in force, in a step to curb the soaring number of traffic accidents in this North African nation.
