SOFIA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Heavy snowfall and strong winds hit the power supply and blocked roads in Bulgaria on Friday, the Ministry of Interior said.
As many as 608 settlements, 499 of them in northeastern Bulgaria, were left without electricity, the ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the road networks in the northeastern provinces of Targovishte, Ruse, Silistra, Razgrad, Dobrich and Shumen have been closed entirely, and the Road Infrastructure Agency banned vehicles weighing over 12 tons from circulating in many other areas of the country, the statement said.
In addition, the bad weather closed the Varna Airport and the port of Burgas on the Black Sea.
Currently, Code Yellow alert for dangerous weather has been declared in eight provinces in southwest Bulgaria, and Code Orange in the remaining regions of the country, the ministry said.
