HANOI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Central Internal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) set its major tasks in 2017 as keeping a close eye on and providing consultancy for investigations and judging of serious economic and corruption cases.

Head of the commission Phan Dinh Trac was quoted by Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA on Friday as saying that his commission will focus on giving advice to remove difficulties and complete the first instance hearing of six major cases, as well as the appeal hearing of other seven cases as scheduled.

The corruption cases include those in the banking sector, and those in the state-run PetroVietnam Construction Corporation, said Trac.

At the same time, the commission will also consult CPV Central Committee on measures to strictly handle individuals and collectives committing violations and causing losses for state-run projects, including northern Dinh Vu fiber factory, central Ethanol Dung Quat plant, northern Ninh Binh and Ha Bac nitrogen factories, among others, said Trac.

In mid-2012, the CPV Central Committee approved the establishment of a central steering committee on preventing and combating corruption under the Politburo and re-establishment of the Central Internal Affairs Commission, which acts as a permanent agency of the steering committee.
