Vietnam's southern stock market ends up

HO CHI MINH CITY, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 675.81 points on Thursday, up 1.11 points, or 0.16 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 102.173 million shares worth 2.076 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (93.70 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 117 stocks went up, 133 stocks fell down, while 44 stocks remained unchanged.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 634.84 points, up 2.13 points, or 0.34 percent.

A total of 50.348 million shares worth 1.040 trillion VND (46.94 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.
