LUSAKA, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 people were killed while 78 others sustained serious injuries during road traffic accidents recorded over the New Year holiday in Zambia, the police said on Wednesday.
Esther Katongo, the police spokesperson said the country recorded 237 road accidents during the New Year holiday, which left 17 people dead and 246 injured, 78 of whom were with serious injuries.
The police also recorded 98 cases of assault, 19 cases of burglary and theft, and 15 cases of housebreaking and theft.
