DHAKA, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's total exports in the first half of the current 2016-17 fiscal year (July 2016-June 2017) reached nearly 17 billion U.S. dollars, up 4.44 percent year on year, official data showed Wednesday.
According to the country's Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data, Bangladesh fetched 16,798.10 million U.S. dollars from exports in six months of the current fiscal year.
The EPB data showed export performance for December was 3.11 billion U.S. dollars, 3.03 percent lower than that in the same month a year ago.
An EPB official said overall export grew as earnings from garment items remained in the positive territory.
He said readymade garment exports from Bangladesh grew at slower 4.37 percent pace to 13.71 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of the current 2016-17 fiscal year.
Bangladesh set its export target in 2016-17 fiscal year at 37 billion U.S. dollars including 30.38 billion U.S. dollars from readymade garment products.
