VIENTIANE, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Lanexang United FC, the leading football team in Laos, and Buriram United FC of Thailand will compete against each other in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday at the final match of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2016.
Lanexang United's home leg against Buriram United FC will be held at Chao Anouvong Stadium in Vientiane. The Lao side will then travel to Thammasat Stadium in Thailand's Pathum Thani to take on the Thai champs on Sunday.
The Lao Football Federation held a team manager meeting in Vientiane on Tuesday ahead of the final first leg. The Lao team said they will be keen to continue their strong recent form and hopefully come away from the first leg encounter without conceding any goals.
Lanexang United FC defeated Cambodian League winner Boeung Ket Angkor FC 3-0 on Saturday to earn a place in the final.
Toyota Mekong Club Championship sees the participation of clubs from five Mekong countries. While clubs from Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam had to battle for a semi-final spot, the Cambodian side went straight to the semi-final as it was runner-up in last year's tournament. Meanwhile, the Thai team proceeded directly to the final as it was overall champion in 2015.
Winners of the local leagues in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam compete for a total prize of 173,000 U.S. dollars, with the winners taking 75,000 U.S. dollars. Enditem
