CES 2017 to open new chapter in tech innovation

Source: Xinhua   2017-01-03 18:46:11

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- For tech addicts, here comes the exciting time of the year. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) for 2017 will officially kick off Thursday in Las Vegas, where startups and established tech leaders will showcase their new products.

CES 2017 is poised to be bigger, bolder and more varied than ever before. With a record-breaking footprint of more than 2.6 million net square feet (some 242,000 square meters) of exhibits, the show will bring together exhibiting companies from 57 countries, up 9 percent from 2016.

"The world truly comes to CES," Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, the organizer of CES, has said. "In some way, shape or form, every major technology company on the planet participates in our show."

Chinese companies like Alibaba, ZTE, LeEco and others will have booths at the show.

"If they come from China, they will get my special attention -- especially now that it's being proven that China can actually innovate, not just copy Western ideas," said Rebecca Fannin, Forbes reporter of CES 2017.

What can you expect of the show this year?

Connectivity, enabled by the 5G revolution, will be ubiquitous throughout CES 2017, touching nearly every product category from automotive to smart home, robotics, fitness tech, health and wellness, wearables and more.

"From the Internet of Things, to virtual reality to self-driving cars and beyond, connectivity is at the core of emerging innovation. With the entire spectrum of technology on display, there is no better place to experience the 5G revolution than at CES 2017," Shapiro said.
