SHENZHEN, China, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland pulled out from 2017 WTA Shenzhen Open here on Monday due to an uncomfortableness in her left abdomen, according to the organizing committee.
"I'm pretty sad about the withdrawal today. I was really looking forward to play here in Shenzhen because I have really good memory of this tournament," said the Swiss.
"But for my own heath and it's the beginning of the year, you have to be wise and think long terms and that's why I withdrew today."
The organizing committe said the finalist in 2015 didn't feel well in her left abdomen so she decided to pull out. The current world No. 15 is the 4th seed this year and she was supposed to play against Camila Giorgi of Italy in the first round. Romania's 'lucky loser' Ana Bogdan will replace Bacsinszky to appear in the first round.
Shenzhen Open, inaugurated in 2013, has the highest prize money of any International tier events on the calendar, totaling 750,000 dollars.
