VIENTIANE, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The shooting of a movie named "Champa Blossoms" jointly produced by China and Laos has started in Lao capital Vientiane.

Being the first movie jointly produced by China and Laos, "Champa Blossoms" is of great significance in promoting exchanges in tourism and cultural areas between the two countries, Vithoun Soundara, acting director general of the Cinema Department under the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, said at a ceremony held in Vientiane on Saturday to mark the start of the movie shooting.

The filming locations in Laos, including capital Vientiane, Vang Vieng and world heritage town Luang Prabang among others, are expected to become more popular thanks to the movie, he said, hoping that more visitors will come to visit Laos.

Zhou Yan, Chinese producer of the movie, said China and Laos are two neighboring countries with profound friendship. It is expected that the China-Laos friendship will continue to blossom.

The movie "Champa Blossoms" tells stories of beautiful love between Lao and Chinese nationals, and will show the friendly relations between the two countries as well as their sceneries and cultural features.
