Bird flu detected among poultry in northeast Croatia

ZAGREB, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Avian influenza has been detected among poultry in northeast Croatia, Assistant Agriculture Minister Damir Agicic confirmed on Friday.

The highly pathogenic bird flu was reported in 15 ducks and chickens at the village of Kriznica on the bank of the Drava River, home to 22 family farms, he said.

It was the first case of bird flu among domestic poultry in Croatia. Before this, several cases had been diagnosed among wild birds, Agicic said.

All necessary measures had been taken to contain the disease, he said.
