MADRID, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Madrid has adopted extra security measures to protect revelers looking to enjoy the New Year and later Three-Kings' celebrations, local authority said on Friday.

People hoping to welcome the New Year in the Puerta del Sol, the very heart of the capital, will have to arrive early.

Attendance in the emblematic square is limited to 25,000, an average of 2.6 people per square meter, it said.

The square will be emptied from 22.00 hours on Friday. No access is allowed until 21.30 hours on New Year's Eve.

Altogether 800 police will be on duty in and around Sol on New Year's Eve, with a security perimeter established in the surrounding streets with those wishing to enter subjected to searches.

No fireworks, glass bottles or objects, such as flags and flagpoles, are allowed.

In addition, trucks weighing over 3,500 kilograms will not be able to be able to circulate in the city from an hour before, until an hour after the parades of the Three-Kings, which will be held in several areas of Madrid between Jan. 3 and Jan. 5.
