MUMBAI, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Some six people were killed in a fire which broke out at a bakery in Pune, a city in the western state of Maharashtra on Friday morning.

The incident took place in Kondhwa Khurd locality of the city, and the six employees were sleeping inside the bakery when the blaze started, according to initial information

A short circuit is believed to have caused the mishap, reported local media.

Further investigation indicates that the door of the bakery was bolted from outside by the store owner.

"The fire wasn't very big, but since there was no outlet, the workers inside died of suffocation," said a local fire official.
