TBILISI, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Georgia will provide Syria with 100,000 U.S. dollars financial aid, Georgia's Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said here on Thursday.

"Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has repeatedly expressed our readiness to help the children that are in trouble in Syria," said Janelidze.

"We have had intensive consultations with the UN and talked about all the ways of humanitarian assistance," he said, adding that Georgia decided to provide Syria with 100,000 dollars via the UN Specialized fund.

According to UN estimates, some 400,000 people have lost their lives since the conflict in Syria broke out in March 2011. An estimated 13.5 million people are in urgent need of assistance.

Millions more have had no choice but to flee the protracted violence and reigning insecurity.
