TOKYO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 rocked Ibaraki prefecture in northeastern Japan at 9:38 p.m. local time, Japan Meteorological Agency said Wednesday.
The temblor was centered in the northern part of Ibaraki prefecture, with the epicenter at a latitude of 36.7 degrees north and a longitude of 140.6 degrees east and at depth of 10 km.
The earthquake logged 6 minus on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7 in some parts of Ibaraki prefecture and could be felt in Tokyo.
So far no major damage or injuries were reported. No tsunami warning has been issued.
