NEW DELHI, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 38 college students were injured in a road mishap in the southern Indian state of Kerala on Tuesday, a senior police official said.
"The mishap happened when a private bus of the Kerala-based Attingal Government College overturned in the state's Kozhikode town when the students were returning to their college from the town of Mysore in the neighboring state of Karnataka," he said.
All the injured students had been admitted to a nearby hospital where the condition of two were said to be serious, the official said.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said, adding that preliminary assessment suggested that the driver of the bus was speeding and lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve that led to the mishap.
India records one of the highest accident rates in the world, with over 130,000 people dying every year, according to official statistics.
