Avalanche in Kyrgyzstan blocks highway leading to China

BISHKEK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- One of the highways of Kyrgyzstan leading to China, "Osh-Sary-Tash-Erkeshtam," has been closed due to an avalanche, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported on Friday.

According to data of the country's Ministry of Emergency Situations, 2, 000 cubic meters of avalanche descended on the 177-km of the highway on Friday morning and blocked the site.

In addition, later at 09:20 am local time, 16,000 cubic meters of avalanche blocked the 224th kilometer of the highway "Bishkek-Osh," connecting the north and south of the country.

Meanwhile, after an hour another avalanche of 6,000 cubic meters blew off a truck parking on the sidelines. The driver was not hurt.

Currently cleaning work is underway in all areas, the report said.
