Military units from seven countries participate in Bulgaria drill

SOFIA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Military units from seven countries showed good coordination during live-fire joint exercise Platinum Lion at Bulgaria's Novo Selo Training Area, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The troops demonstrated that very good work has been done during this drill, Bulgarian Chief of Defense General Constantin Popov said after watching the joint training operation.

A total of 600 troops are participating in the 10-day exercise ending on Wednesday, including 300 from the U.S. Marine Corps, 150 from Bulgaria, as well as 30-member units from the land forces of Albania, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine, the statement said.

During the drill, participants have been conducting joint live-fire training, as well as tactical, technical and medical classes.

Armored vehicles, artillery systems and tanks have been involved in the exercise, whose purpose was to enhance interoperability of the multinational military formations, and their preparation for joint missions, the statement said.

The event is a part of the plan for joint Bulgarian-U.S. training and exercises for 2016, it added.
