ATHENS, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Greek and multinational companies announced on Tuesday the withdrawal of dozens of food and drink products from supermarket shelves after a local anarchist group warned specific goods were contaminated with chlorine and hydrochloric acid.

The counterterrorism unit is investigating the threat posted on an anti-establishment website by the so-called group "Green Nemesis", a police statement read.

The anarchists published a list of a dozen products, including soft drinks, tomato sauce and canned milk, claiming that they have poisoned them and would return them to supermarket shelves for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Coca- Cola, Nestle, Unilever and Delta companies issued separate announcements on the imminent withdrawal of the products as a precaution.

"This development harms a Greek company, with more than 1,200 employees, who is cooperating on a daily basis with at least 1,400 Greek farmers, contributing for more than 60 years to the Greek economy," Delta dairy giant stressed in its announcement.

A similar threat by the same group had been issued three years ago.
