TEHRAN, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey, describing it as an "act of evil," official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said the criminal act indicated that terrorists linked to extremism are not bound to any of internationally respected laws.
Terrorists "are committing such brutal acts to cause dispute among countries and create more instability and insecurity in the region," Qasemi was quoted as saying.
The only way to deal with this vicious and horrible phenomenon of our time "is unity and solidarity of all nations and governments in a relentless fight against terrorism and extremism," he added.
Tehran will stand by the people and governments of the regional and world countries until the complete eradication of the vicious phenomenon, he stressed.
Earlier in the day, a gunman in a black suit and tie shot the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov dead as he was speaking at the opening of a photographic art exhibition in the capital city of Ankara.
