BAGHDAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi government on Monday condemned the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey, describing the incident as "terrorist act."
"The Iraqi Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Ankara Andrey Karlov, and expresses deeply pain for such terrorist act," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement also called for the need to provide all the security means to protect the diplomatic missions.
Earlier in the day, a gunman in a black suit and tie shot dead the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov as he was speaking at the opening of a photographic art exhibition in the capital city of Ankara, titled "Russia through Turks' eyes."
