BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Halal food industry is welcome here in Brunei, a government official has said.

Dato Mohd Amin Liew, Brunei's deputy minister of finance, told Xinhua Friday that Brunei is looking forward to close cooperation in Halal food industry with foreign countries, including China.

"We look at especially Brunei Halal food as our strength. Foreign companies like Chinese companies can capitalize on our Halal certification here in Brunei and make it easier for them to export halal products overseas from here," the official said.

"We already have Gahnim International to establish a number of overseas markets with different foreign partners," Dato Mohd Amin Liew, who is also chairman of Ghanim International Corporation Board of Directors, added.

According to its website, Ghanim International "develops, markets and promotes high-quality halal food products under the bruneihalalfood brand with production bases and reliable suppliers across the world."

According to Nur Rahman, CEO of Ghanim International Corporation, Ghanim is one of the portals to export Halal food in Brunei.

"We are exporting into different markets, including China. And we are working with specific partners to promote bruneihalalfood into their markets," he said.
