MANILA, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Surigao del Norte in the southern Philippines on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The tremor struck 253 km northeast of Burgos in Surigao del Norte province on the Mindanao island at around 9 a.m. local time.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, hit at a depth of 32 km, the institute said, adding that it has not received any report of damage or casualty so far.
