LUSAKA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- A family of six in eastern Zambia's Katete district has died after lightning struck them, the police said on Wednesday.
The family, from a remote village of the district, was killed when lightning struck them on Tuesday afternoon during heavy rains, according to state broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation which quoted police commissioner Alex Chilufya.
The deceased were aged between two and 34 years, the police chief added.
The police chief further said another woman died on the same day in another area of the district when lightning struck her in her kitchen.
Deaths caused by lightning are common in Zambia during the rain season.
In December last year, seven people died when lightning struck a church building in southern Zambia while in March this year, three people died in Chingola town in the Copperbelt Province while two others sustained injuries when lightning struck them after they took shelter under a tree. Enditem
