PRAGUE, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Czech police opened fire on a man driving a stolen car, shooting him dead after a chase on Monday afternoon in the Vyskov vicinity, Czech police spokeswoman Stepanka Komarova said on Tuesday.
Komarova said the driver did not react to the police's repeated calls to stop and he had threatened the policemen's lives with his dangerous driving. Police officers had to stop the car by force.
According to Komarova, the driver died at the scene as a result of injuries he suffered.
An autopsy will be carried out to check whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Police said the man had been known to police for previously committed property crimes.
Komarova said Czech General Inspection of Security Corps (GIBS) would investigate the case as they did all cases in which police officers used weapons. Enditem
