BRUSSELS, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-four people were arrested in Greece in a joint investigation against migrants smuggling, the European Police Office (Europol) said in a press release Monday.
The action took place on Dec. 8 by police of Greece and Britain, targeting at an Athens-based organized crime group.
The individuals were arrested for their suspected roles in the group, involving in the smuggling of Iranian nationals from Greece to Britain, often via France and Spain.
Europol provided operational support, including cross-matches against its databases, analysis and intelligence to the action.
The investigations discovered that the group charged up to 10,000 euros (10,600 U.S. dollars) per person to supply migrants with counterfeit documents, and arrange their journeys to Britain.
Forgery equipment, 50,000 euros in cash and hundreds of documents were also seized during the action. (1 euro = 1.06 U.S.dollars)
