BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua)-- China on Friday reaffirmed its firm opposition to official and military relations between the United States and Taiwan in any form, as well U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.
"China's stance is consistent and clear, and well known to the international community," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang at a daily press briefing.
Lu made the remarks while commenting on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed by the U.S. senate and the House of Representatives.
According to reports, the NDAA includes content promoting exchanges between military officers of the United States and Taiwan.
The Taiwan issue, concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, is the most important and sensitive issue to China-U.S. relations, Lu said.
Lu noted that China has lodged solemn representation to the U.S. side about the act many times since it was put forward by the senate and the House of Representatives.
He urged the United States to abide by the one-China policy, the commitment it made and the principles of the three Sino-U.S. Joint Communiques.
"The U.S. side should cautiously handle the issue and not to turn back the wheels of history, so as to avoid disturbance to the China-U.S. relations," Lu said.
