CANBERRA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said the 2017 edition of the G'Day USA "public, cultural and economic diplomacy" program will showcase the best of Australia to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.

Launching the 2017 G'day USA program on Friday, Bishop said the timing of the event on Jan. 28 was "an opportunity to emphasize the importance of this relationship to Australia and to the United States" to what will be a "brand new" Trump administration.

"G'Day USA has grown to become an important platform for bilateral dialogue with the United States," Bishop said in a statement on Friday.

"(We) will continue to promote and highlight bilateral cooperation across foreign policy, defence, innovation, the arts and pursue a strong economic diplomacy agenda by promoting Australia as an important trade and investment partner."

The programs, now in its 14th year, allows Australia's tourism, education and defence industries to showcase the best they have to offer across a number of U.S cities, and Bishop said the 2017 event would be bigger than ever.

G'Day USA begins in New York on Jan. 20, 2017, the same day as the presidential inauguration.
