Laos hosts GMS capital market education forum

VIENTIANE, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) is hosting the Greater Mekong Sub-region Capital Market Education Forum 2016 (GMS CMEF 2016) for the first time.

The two-day forum opened Thursday in Lao capital Vientiane with the participation of delegations from the securities commission and exchange from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, reported local Vientiane Times.

Vanhkham Voravong, Chief Executive Officer of Lao Stock Exchange said GMS countries have to continue working side by side to enhance economic relations. The forum would mark another major milestone in the collaboration for mutual growth of the GMS capital market.

Vanhkham affirmed the roles of market stakeholders, especially investors, as a vital mechanism in promoting the growth of markets.

The forum focuses on the development of retail investors in the capital market, revolving around promoting investor education initiatives by exchanging development strategies and sharing lessons in order to create opportunities for public and private organizations in co-developing the capital market.

The forum is expected to provide the opportunity to enhance the GMS capital market in addition to enhancing investors' understanding of emerging strategies and ideas to ensure that they work.
