KAMPALA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- In African rugby, Uganda is showcasing that it is a power to reckon with on the continent, and is expected to show its prowess at the 2016 Cape Town Sevens in South Africa.
Ramzy Olinga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Rugby Union told Xinhua in an interview on Thursday that Uganda can no longer be termed as an underdog in Africa.
Although the East African country did not have a good performance at the just concluded Dubai Sevens last weekend, Uganda showed that it can take on the giants.
Uganda ranked 14th at the Dubai event after beating Japan. The country lost to Canada, Scotland, US, and eventual winners South Africa.
Olinga argued that participation in the Dubai Sevens was a good exposure to the players.
Uganda was invited for the World Rugby Sevens Series leg in Dubai and Cape Town Sevens after it defeated Kenya, Zimbabwe and Namibia to lift the Rugby Africa Sevens title in October this year.
After the Cape Town event, the Uganda Rugby Cranes will travel for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series qualifier in Hong Kong in March, 2017.
