LUSAKA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The governments of Zambia and South Africa on Wednesday signed a historical Joint Commission of Cooperation deal that will guide bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The deal was signed in Pretoria, South Africa after talks between top officials from the two countries which began on Monday this week, according to a statement released by the Zambian Embassy in South Africa.
The deal provides for joint cooperation in sectors such as energy, agriculture, livestock, trade, mining, fisheries, forestry, commerce and industry, it added.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Zambia's Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba and his South African counterpart Maite Mashabani.
According to the statement, the works to establish the Joint Commission for Cooperation has been underway since 2005.
While stating that the two countries have 21 agreements between them, the statement added that there has been no effective mechanism to implement the agreements.
