BRUSSELS, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- NATO foreign ministers on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in Afghanistan with partners and Afghani counterparts at a meeting at NATO headquarters.

"The situation in Afghanistan is and will remain difficult and tough," said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference following the meeting.

Stoltenberg said Afghan security forces had been the victims of many casualties, which has taken responsibility for security across the country since NATO-led forces completed the combat mission in Dec. 2014.

"NATO will continue to train, advise and assist the Afghan forces through our Resolute Support Mission," Stoltenberg added.

During the meeting, Afghan foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani briefed NATO ministers and partners on Afghanistan's ongoing reforms, which are linked to western support.

At NATO's Warsaw Summit in July, NATO allies agreed to sustain Resolute Support Mission beyond 2016 and continue funding Afghan security forces through 2020.
