Uganda's City Oilers to battle Africa's top giants at continental basketball

KAMPALA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's City Oilers (men) and also east Africa's top club is set to face off with the continent's top giants at the 2016 Federation of International Basketball Association Africa Club Champions' Cup.

The City Oilers who start their campaign in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday are pooled along side with Libolo (Angola), AS Sale (Morocco), Customs (Nigeria), BEAC (Cameroon) and GSP (Algeria).

"We had good camping in Alexandria where we played two international build-up games and we are ready for action now. We shall take every game as it comes," head coach Mande Juruni told Xinhua by telephone on Wednesday.

The Ugandan team qualified for the event after beating Kenyan champions Ulinzi in the final of the Zone 5 Africa Championship played in Tanzania.

Uganda's Most Valuable Player Kami Kabange, Landry Ndikumana, Ben Komakech and Geoffrey Omondi will be the star players to lead the City Oilers.

The tournament will run from Dec. 7-16 and the 12 participating teams have been divided in two groups of six each following Tuesday night's official draw.

Group A:

Al Ahly (Egypt), Primeiro do Agosto (Angola), Club Africain (Tunisia), NzuiManto (Cameroon) Kano Pillars (Nigeria) and AS Bairro

Group B:

Libolo (Angola), AS Sale (Morocco), City Oilers (Uganda), Customs (Nigeria), BEAC (Cameroon) and GSP (Algeria).
