NAIROBI, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The feeling of gold medal as the national anthem is recited in major competition is priceless.
It is one desire that was robbed of Milcah Chemos during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
Chemos initially finished third behind Marta Dominguez and Yulia Zaripova but both of them have been subsequently disqualified for anti-doping violations and had their results annulled.
Now Chemos has welcomed their disqualification from the 3000m steeplechase final at the 2009 World Championships.
"What I have learnt is that a genuine name and personality will always remain. Athletes should learn a lesson from these dopers that whatever you take, it will always come out, however long. Shortcuts are not the way," said Chemos.
However, to Chemos she has a bigger battle to fight and it is what interests her more than the news that she will be a two time World steeplechase champion.
Injuries has taken the wind out of her sail and she is keen to return to track. Chemos, who won the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, skipped the Beijing show last year due to a spinal injury.
"I am happy that I have started my training after an injury locked me out of the Beijing show where I was meant to defend my title," she said. "I hope I will pick up well in my training and achieve my dream."
Chemos finished fourth at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
"I picked the injury while competing at the 2012 Olympics but it became serious in 2014. I went to a doctor and results showed an inflammation in my hamstring muscles. I went for further checkups in Glasgow in 2014 and the results showed complication in my spinal cord and that forced me to undergo surgery in India. But I thank God I am back on my feet again," she added.
Athletics Kenya is set to hand the gold medal to Chemos during the AK Awards Gala on Thursday in Nairobi. Silver should go to Gulnara Galkina and bronze to Jenny Simpson.
