FMs discuss NATO's adaptation to security challenges, EU-NATO cooperation

BRUSSELS, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- NATO foreign ministers on Tuesday met here to discuss NATO's adaptation to security challenges and to boost cooperation between the organization and the European Union (EU).

During the two-day ministerial meeting, which began Tuesday, NATO ministers are expected to agree on a set of 40 concrete proposals toward EU-NATO cooperation, according to NATO's press release.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg highlighted the importance of the transatlantic bond between North America and Europe in addressing today's security challenges.

"One way of strengthening the bond is by strengthening the cooperation between NATO and EU," Stoltenberg said.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini as well as foreign ministers of Finland and Sweden also attended the meeting.

The meeting agenda also includes discussions on defense capacity-building cooperation with NATO partner countries, and support for Afghanistan and Ukraine.
