Zambia seeks Togo's support for AU commissioner candidacies

LOME, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Zambia requests the support of Togo to two candidacies for trade and industry as well as agriculture commissioners in January next year at the African Union (AU).

Mrs. Dora Siliya, the Zambian minister of agriculture, has met on that effect the Togolese Prime Minister Komi Selom Klassou on Monday here in the capital Lomé.

"We are here in Togo for a very special mission," the special envoy of the Zambian president Edgar Lungu said to media after meeting with Prime Minister Klassou.

"The letter I have delivered is for the president of Togo," Dora Siliya said.

She explained her country is seeking the support of Togo in a context of mutual support.

The special envoy underscored that Zambia is ready to provide its support to Togo which is also applying for economic affairs commissioner at the African Union.

The African Union is gearing to elect a new chairman in January 2017, as a replacement for the South-African Mrs. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

In the meantime, eight commissioners will be elected.
