NEW DELHI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two sailors were killed and 15 others injured after Indian navy's warship, INS Betwa ( a guided missile frigate), on Monday tipped over at Mumbai's naval dockyard, officials said.
"The incident occurred during undocking when the ship's mast hit the dockyard ground," Indian navy spokesperson Capt. D K Sharma told media.
The spokesman said the injured sailors were being treated and bodies of the two sailors, who were earlier reported missing, were fished out by navy divers late in the evening.
According to Sharma, the ship was being returned to sea after a refit when the systems tripped leading to its falling sideways. The main mast of the ship has suffered a massive damage, reports said.
Commissioned in 2004, INS Betwa, the highly prized 3850-tonne warship with a length of 126 metres, was indigenously designed and built. The ship is armed with surface to air missiles and torpedoes.
Officials said the extent of the damage suffered by INS Betwa was being assessed.
The Navy has ordered an inquiry into the accident.
Reports said this is the second major incident involving INS Betwa. Earlier, in January 2014 the ship collided with an unidentified object which caused crack in its sonar system.
