OSLO, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Norwegian ministry of justice has given green light to impose a toll of 225 kroner (26.85 U.S. dollars) on drivers in the western city of Bergen on days with bad air, newspaper Aftenposten reported on Monday.

Norwegian parliament discussed this matter during works on state budget in December last year. The city government made a decision in March to extend the arrangement by multiplying the congestion charge on days with danger of air pollution, the report said.

That means during the rush hour in the morning and afternoon from Monday to Friday the fee will be 225 kroner. The rest of the day it will cost 95 kroner to drive to the city centre. At the same time the public transport will be for free.

The city's commissioner for urban development Anna Elisa Tryti supported the sponsoring of free public transport by increasing toll on such days.

Tryti said that now further work is needed to be done "with lightning speed" and the public road administration will conclude an additional agreement with the toll company about the way of handling incomes or losses in contingency fee.
