NEW DELHI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A thick blanket of fog enveloped the Indian capital Friday morning, disrupting over 100 flights as visibility level dropped below 50 meters.
"Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi were severely affected by fog. Over 100 flights -- both domestic and international -- were delayed by the weather conditions," a senior aviation official said.
However, there have been no reports of any flight cancellations till now, he added.
According to the airport, the temperature around 8:30 a.m. (local time) was 13 degrees Celsius and visibility was below 50 meters.
Local TV channels showed footage of chaos at the airport as passengers had a harrowing time due to delayed take-offs, while those scheduled to reach Delhi had similar experiences as flights could not land at the airport because of poor runway visibility.
This is the second day of foggy morning. Some 200 flights were disrupted Thursday morning due to the severe weather conditions.
Fog is common in northern India, particularly during the intense winter months of December and January, hitting both air and rail traffic every year.
