LIMA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit Peru Thursday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Service (USGS).
The quake, with an epicenter located 43 km north-northeast of Huarichancara, a town near the southeastern city of Puno, hit at 5:40 p.m. local time.
Peru's Health Ministry issued a statement via Twitter, calling on residents to "stay calm."
"Staying calm is the main step during a quake," the ministry said.
So far no casualties have been reported.
