LUSAKA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday said he will soon start firing top public workers who were hindering the smooth service delivery in the public service.

Lungu said investigations have revealed that some top public workers such as permanent secretaries were tired and hindering service delivery hence the need to replace them.

Speaking at State House when he swore-in new permanent secretary at the Ministry of Health John Moyo, Lungu said some permanent secretaries will soon be replaced because they were not performing, adding that procrastination and lethargy among top public workers have been delaying service delivery.

The Zambian leader expressed concern that decisions which were made a long time ago have still not been acted on and attributed this to lethargy among top public workers.

He has since urged permanent secretaries to execute their duties efficiently in order to enhance service delivery.
