Tokyo shares close higher on upbeat U.S. data

TOYKO, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed slightly higher Wednesday thanks to upbeat U.S. gross domestic product data, while investors turned cautious with uncertainties pervading the meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), a 14-member oil-producing group.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 1.44 points, or 0.01 percent, from Tuesday at 18,308.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.86 points, or 0.06 percent, higher at 1,469.43.

Gainers were led by securities, grass and ceramics products, and construction issues.

The day's turnover was about 3,249.2 billion yen (around 28.83 billion U.S. dollars).
